Week 6/Day 2

Acts 1:8
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

THE ‘PARACLETE’

We all need help.  It’s a fact whether we like it or not.  Some of us recognize our need and some of us don’t.  Many of us wait until we are all out of our own solutions and, then, we go running to God screaming, “Help!”  For many of us that’s the extent of our understanding and relationship with God.  We have all been there.  As we look at the subject of the Holy Spirit something should shock us out of that faulty perception.   The Holy Spirit is more than just a help during times of trial.  Jesus uses the word, “Paraclete” in John 14 to identify the Holy Spirit.  It means, “one who appears in another’s behalf, a mediator, an intercessor, a helper…”  The Holy Spirit, fully God, is sent as our helper not only in times of need, but always and forever.  He is the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

John 14:16, 25 (An Everlasting Help)
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever…

John 15:26
(Our Teacher)
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 16.13 (Our Messenger of Hope)
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

QUESTIONS FOR STUDY
The Holy Spirit is our ever present help in all things, reminding us of all that Jesus said, guiding us into all truth and leading us forward into our glorious hope.  Yet, we are prone to count on ourselves and our own understanding.  How have you neglected the abiding help of the Holy Spirit and sought after your own way?

PRAYER:
O to grace how great a debtor, daily I’m constrained to be
Let Thy goodness like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart o take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above.
